Will someone please help?

Hi everyone,

I would appreciate very much with some input on what I should do. I have started taking thyroid medication beginning of last year, mostly through my own initiative but did go to a private specialist (a former GP) who confirmed the diagnosis for Hashimotos. I am trying to conceive for the last three years with one misscariage 2 1/2 years ago and the reason why I got into trying to sort out my health for conception is mostly fertiltiy as i will be 37 this year.

At the moment I am taking 65 mg Whole thyroid and also t4 25 mcg (synthroid).

I was previously on 90 mg Whole thyroid but started to feel a little hyper and my doctor wanted to put me on t3 only as he thought its the only thing that would help with my Hashimotos. I was totally against it since in my understanding is that t3 is the last option and being relatively healthy with only mjnor symptoms. Also since I am trying to conceive i thought it wouldn't be a good idea. My reasoning was that since I started to medicate only recently it would take time to find the right dose and see if the more "standard" treatment is ok for me. So I asked for t4 and reduced my dose for WT by the same amount as the t4 I was adding. I wanted to see if it was the ratio of the Whole thyroid that was the problem, and if it was just too much t3 that was giving me all those hyper symptoms where otherwise I had generaly felt better on WT.

I have been on this for a month and a half. I feel ok, however I think I am still not optimal. I do have symptoms which indicate both hyper and hypo. I have hot flashes, and sometimes increased heart rate, but get cold easily and need lots of sleep. My hair was falling out more than usual before I added the t4 but now its better. My antibodies are still high and still get tired in the afternoon. My libido is also low.

My GP thinks my levels are fine and he doesnt think I should increase the dose. But I am not sure because sometimes the hyper symptoms can appear if the raising of the medication was done too quickly or the body might react like this until it balances itself. My GP thinks I am fine if I was to fall pregnant but I am so scared if and not optimal then in pregnancy it will be a problem to adjust the medicine. Any suggestions please?

Also I have started to take LDN a week ago to try and bring my antibodies down.

Thank you!

Hello

In order for your body to utilise what you’re putting into it you need to get your vitamin levels optional. Vitamin D, Folate, Iron, b12, ferritin, magnesium and Zinc can be tested. You might also consider going gluten free to see if that is contributing to your symptoms. The Thyroid Pharmacist website is v good about helping optimise your diet. You might also want to add in regular cardio exercise.

Good luck with the pregnancy journey.

Hi Janeoar, thank you for your reply. I tested everything and I am taking Folinic acid very high dose since I have MTHFR, b12 1000 mcg every day, iron , zinc, magnesium and high dose of vit D every month. I also very rarely eat gluten ans exercise regularly. What I would like to know is someone telling me a little bit about my lab results? Because my symptoms are overlapping some hyper and some hypo symptoms.

Sorry Missydoo I’m not expert enough to advise on here re that, it’s q a skilled understanding that’s needed. Maybe repost if no one else replies with a more specific heading asking for advice on overlapping hypo and hyper symptoms.
