I've been on thyroxine for 8 years and to be honest I'm not very surgery crazy. My question is what's the maximum dosage i can take. I could probably find out by ringing them but as I said I'm not very surgery compatible Thanks

What do you mean by "not very surgery compatible" and "not very surgery crazy".

As for levothyroxine, you need the dose you need. Eveyone is different. Some people only need 100mcg, others need as much as 300mcg.

What are your latest test results for TSH, FT4 and FT3. That will tell you if you are taking the correct dose, it will also tell you if you are converting T4 to T3 well enough and if Levothyroxine is the right hormone replacement for you.

Please post your latest results, including their reference ranges (usually in brackets) and members will be able to comment.

I think you mean that your surgery isn't too helpful and don't explain things to you. The maximum dose we can take is one that removes our clinical symptoms and we feel well.

This is the advice to follow if you want the best from your blood tests:-

1. Blood draw should be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours from your last dose of levo and the test and take afterwards.

2. If you've not had the following tested for a while ask your doctor to test Free T4 and Free T3 as well. If he or lab wont you can get these through one of our recommended labs and they are home finger-prick test. Pack is delivered by post and you return it.

The aim, for us the patient, is to have sufficient thyroid hormones so that the TSH is 1 or lower and Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper part of the ranges. GP should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. We need our symptoms to be resolved.
