Sourcing T3 in Northern Ireland

Hi guys, I’ve only recently signed up but have found the discussion forums here very comforting and informative in the past!

I was diagnosed with hashimotos in Feb 2017 at 21 and never really got to a place where my medications were helping in reality.

I have recently been prescribed a starter dose of 5mcg of T3 by my consultant (who I finally went to thanks to suggestions on this site). I took the prescription down to the South of Ireland (my GP gasped at the suggestion of T3 and actually destroyed the original script 🙄) and got a 6 week supply of T3 for €98.

I am curious as to whether this is a good price? It is literally my first day of taking them so I don’t know how beneficial they will be In the long term or whether I’ll continue them- but could anyone give any advice on where to go and where to buy T3 at the best price?

Thank you!

I have removed your consultant's name as forum rules don't allow us to discuss them without their permission .

There is an article on ThyroidUK's main website about how to obtain T3 with prescription, the cheapest way is to send it to one of the German pharmacies. I believe the price is something like 30 euros for 100 tablets (hopefully someone will confirm) but it must be written correctly, i.e.

Liothyronine 20mcg 100 tablets

Hi JoSmi

Just read your post. I too am in NI and my endo prescribed 2x5mcg T3 twice daily. I paid £640 (yes that's right- £640!!) for 180 pills. Still working my way though them but almost finished. I sourced through a local pharmacist. Never thought of trying ROI.

Hope it is working out ok for you.

Feel we are fortunate to find someone in NI who will actually try T3. My GP practice is not at all happy but have agreed to carry out the requisite blood test every 8-12 weeks.
