Hi, I currently take 175mcg levo. I noticed at about the 150mcg stage that following a meal my heart rate would rise to around 96-100 bpm and this continues. My heart rate at rest is around 70-80bpm. The increase lasts for an hour or so and returns to normal. It's not a big problem but it can make me hot and sweat a little. My question is, have others experienced this and could it be considered a marker of over-replacement, under-replacement or neither ?. It did not happen before treatment. Thanks all.
Increased heart rate after eating: Hi, I... - Thyroid UK
Increased heart rate after eating
This happens to me under certain circumstances.
I've discovered that it happens if I eat a meal or a treat/snack which is high in sugar. I suspect I am on my way to developing type 2 diabetes.
I just need to learn that ice cream is gonna kill me if I don't get a grip on my eating habits!
Suggest you retest full thyroid and vitamin levels .....especially before considering adding T3
See exactly what’s happening
Have you ever had ultrasound scan of thyroid?
I reread your previous posts that you appear to not have high thyroid antibodies
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested. Also EXTREMELY important to regularly test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
If/when also on T3, make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Eating a meal can increase blood pressure, it can also increase heart rate, this is because eating causes changes in blood flow.
I used to own a restaurant and some people who had a high meat content meal such as a steak would often sweat quite profusely and go red.

I've been having this for quite some time but it went away when I tried NDT. I suspect it has something to do with my blood sugar and low T3 levels but I can't say with certainty.
