Other than eating less red meat, what can be done to lower ferritin? I don't weigh enough to donate blood. I don't take supplements that contain iron.
Ferritin 131.1 ng/mL (range 13-150)
I've read optimal range for a woman is 30-40, so I'm way over what's an ideal level. Too high ferritin is associated with sudden cardiac events, cancer & there's now a possible connection to Alzheimer's.
My thanks for suggestions.

I don't think you have anything to worry about considering that for thyroid hormone to work (that's our own as well as replacement hormone) it's said that ferritin needs to be at least 70, preferably half way through range.
I've also read elsewhere that 100-130 is a good level for women (possibly menstruating women).
Plus, there's a school of thought amongst some Drs that the reference ranges are in fact, inaccurate, having been distorted by there being too many women of menstruating years in the study population, which would have artificially lowered average levels.
Thanks. Know we need enough ferritin to utilize T3, but curious if high ferritin skews lab results. My recent fT3 was also high & my doctor is reducing T3 to 5 mcg. Free T3 6.1, range 2.3-4.2.
Here is some info, hope this helps. Maybe your doc will do some more tests to make sure it is not caused by some of these high ferritin causes. Hopefully it is ok like others have said, but I’d get it checked out to make sure.
