Bit worried about recent bloods. My TSH 0.014 and I'm 10 weeks pregnant. Have I done any harm?

I know the Trimester-specific reference ranges for TSH are : first trimester, 0.1–2.5 μIU/mL;

Just wondering if I've done any harm or damage to little one with it being so low. My GP has referred me to Endo but my first apt is end of April. I'm currently on 150mg but considering alternating between 100mg and 150mg as I don't have any 25mg.

Quite worried about this now. Any advice or reassurance much appreciated in advance.

Hi

Do add in your free t4 and T3 results as well

They show you are not over range on either and so the low TSH is inconsequential (you told me it's 0.14 but wrote 0.014 above?) Either way ignore that

It's the T4 that matters and 19 is top third and more than enough for pregnancy so you're doing fine 🙂 x

I think in my head I wanted it to be 0.14 but after I wrote to you, OH said "it's not within range it's much lower". So I looked again. Thanks. Been a nervous wreak. x

Lol I think you're finding things to worry about now - I went through it too.... " This can't possibly be ok...what am I missing ?!"

But your results are really quite reassuring and your surgery should hopefully agree to continue with 150 at least.

Hopefully diogenes will be able to pop in and reassure you as he has for many of us on this issue

Your baby draws on your thyroid hormones for its brain and other development during the first trimester, and not your pituitary hormone, ie TSH. As long as you have an optimal level of thyroid hormones to support your baby's growth and your health, that's what is important.

Thank you. Such a worry trying to stay within range, without Endo until end of April. My GP/ locum doesn't understand so I have to post. Was worried I may have cause brain damage or development problems as I know first trimester is so important. My T4 was 19 and Saya thinks that's ok. Thank you so much for your reassurance. x

You have to include your FT4 and FT3 results as well (+ ranges). There's a big difference between being totally healthy thyroid-wise and being on T4. With being on T4, the corresponding diagnostic TSH range is significantly lower than in health (0.03-0.5 for non pregnant patients). But if your FT4 isn't too high but within the range and if your FT3 is midrange or very slightly below, the TSH value is irrelevant. The single great thing to avoid is taking too little T4 and getting TSH up to the 2+ mark. How far along are you? If fairly well along, the foetus is developing its own thyroid and will be less and less dependent on you, so long as you have enough iodine intake for both it and you to make enough thyroid hormone.

Sorry, I didn't know. It's the first time they have tested my T3 ever. Around 10 weeks.

TSH is 0.014

Free T4 19.5

triiodothyronine 5.1 [3.8-6.0]

Ferritin 54ng/mL [10.0-210.0]

Folate 23.4 ug/L [3.1-19.9] Above range

diogenes won't see your answer as you haven't replied to his comment or tagged him so have tagged him for you 🙂

But yes- it's what I was staying to you too- last thing you want to do is drop your t4 when it's in top third of range and not over range and your T3 is midway

You're almost 12 weeks so baby will be less dependent on you soon enough x
