Hi I have seen lost on here see a specialist for their cond.

I have not seen one for years. Is this right?

When I went on tevu I went to doctors and said I wanted to be referred to see a consultant. He said try a different brand wrote a new script said tell them not to give me tevu and best to try an independent chemist. I just put my trust in them to know what's best....but obviously have been wrong. Can't believe doctors don't know more about this as so many people have it.

I have read quite a few posts and to be honest a few are quite beyond me with my brain for, It just switches off. Now reading about grains and NDT so totally confused lol.

Feel a bit thick to be honest. :)

If you were finding that TEVA didn't suit you, as you mentioned in your previous post, it's perfectly reasonable for your Dr to suggest you have a different brand, it's what is often suggested here. Not every brand suits everyone, an intolerance to one or other of the excipients used, can make a difference to some people. A referral to an Endo is not routine, unless it's required, or there are particular circumstances such as needing to be considered for T3 for instance; you wouldn't expect to be referred simply because you hadn't seen one for a while. You were advised previously, to obtain copies of your test results as it appears your problems may be due to being under-medicated; and this is really important if you are to be knowledgeable about your condition and manage your health optimally. Once you have them, post them here and members can comment. A grain is a centuries old unit of measurement of mass, that I believe was the equivelant of a grain of barley, that has carried over from early apothecary days. In terms of NDTs, a grain will contain 38 mcg T4 and 9 mcg T3, sourced from either a porcine or bovine thyroid. Until you have first optimised your present T4 dosing, to see if your problems have arisen from being on too low a dose, and can be resolved by dosing correctly, it wouldn't be advisable to swap to an NDT. Not only would it be likely that you would have to source it and pay for it yourself, as it is unlicensed in the UK, but taking in T3 in whatever ever form, requires an understanding of how it affects blood test results differently from T4, which may bring you into conflict with your GP, and you need to be sufficiently prepared and informed to stand your corner.
