Hi, just before Xmas I had a short synacthen test done (9am) as I have some symptoms that may point towards Addisons and are apparently not to do with my underactive thyroid (on 125 levo), my asthma, high blood pressure or coeliac disease....
I have just phoned for the results and have been told that they are 'entirely normal'. the results were;
324 nmol/L baseline
552 nmol/L after 30 mins.
I have googled and found at pathology.leedsth.nhs.uk/dn... "Adrenal insufficiency is excluded by an incremental rise in cortisol of > 200 nmol/L and a 30 min value > 600 nmol/L. The above definition only defines adrenal insufficiency"
I have an appointment with my Endo in February and don't want to be totally fobbed off as this to me looks like its under what is needed, albeit in a grey area...
any advice/comments?

Ah yes, but if you had looked at Gloucestershire NHS Trust, you would have read "A cortisol of >420nmol/L at 30 minutes post Synacthen indicates an adequate adrenal response." If you had read South Derbyshire, you would have found "A normal response is defined as a 30 minute serum cortisol concentration greater than 420 nmol/L. (NOTE: Roche generation II cortisol assay in use from 11/01/16 giving approximately 25% decreased results compared to the previous assay. The 420 nmol/L cut-off is therefore equivalent to the previously used cut-off of 540 nmol/L)".You need to judge your result against the reference levels of the laboratory assaying your blood.
