I’ve been reading about all of the benefits of “fire cider” for ones immune system, inflammation, adrenal health, metabolism,, digestive health and over-all wellness. Does anyone here use this concoction on a daily basis? I’m in the U.S. so I’m not sure if this tonic is used in the UK- many folks make their own or it can also be purchased .

Fire Cider?
I've never heard of it. Can you give us more info or maybe a link to a recipe?

Sounds like my sort of thing!
Sounds interesting, but leave out the horseradish for me! Ginger might be nice instead.
Sounds not very pleasant - horseradish? Yuk. But anything that is lauded as being a cure for everything, as this seems to be, always smacks of snake oil to me. I can't see it doing any harm though, except perhaps to one's dental enamel.
Sounds like something I'd try. I believe in many old time remedies often over modern expensive Big Pharma drugs. I use Bragg's apple cider vinegar a lot-grew up with it. I also use aloe vera gel scraped straight from the inside of my aloe vera plant in my kitchen. This was very common when I was growing up. Esp for sunburns, cuts and scrapes. Just cut off a bit of leaf, scrape the gel out and apply.
Some say drink it but I could never stand the taste.
Re the fire cider I would add if you're in the US avoid processed ready made horseradish (ingredients lists are not always complete and honest re additives/preservatives and the like.)
Buy the root and grate your own. The root keeps in the fridge in a glass jar. Some recipes say store in the jar covered with sherry. I don't think this is necessary. Just use a glass container (mason jar?) instead of plastic.
But who knows ? The sherry might add a kick to the fire cider and you might not care how it tastes!
I ordered an organic version of Fire Cider on Amazon to try- if I like it, I’m going to make my own- would be much cheaper as well as more satisfying.
I also use Braggs apple cider vinegar and fresh aloe- and yes, I would definitely get fresh horseradish root. I would def not use plastic; I have some large mason jars.
Hi jjyankee,
I have a recipe for Fire Cider sans horseradish, although contains liberal amounts of chilli!! I've never tried it myself so can't recommend it personally.
Usnea Fire Cider
1/4 cup chopped garlic
1/4 cup chopped ginger
1/4 cup finely shredded usnea
1/4 cup chopped thyme
2 TBSP dried chilli flakes
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup local honey
To make fire cider place garlic, ginger, usnea, thyme, and chilli flakes in a quart jar.
Fill jar 3/4 way with apple cider vinegar
Top jar off with honey
Shake well and let sit for 2 days
Take Fire Cider by the spoonful or dropperful whenever feeling sore throat, run down, or stuffy. All of the ingredients, in particular usnea lichen has antimicrobial properties. Garlic is detoxifying and much like ginger and chilli flakes can aid in clearing out mucus. Vinegar assists with post meal blood sugar stability while the honey is soothing to irritated membranes. All together this is a blood moving and stimulating blend!
Sounds like most of the ingredients are beneficial things to eat anyway. I make a soup with loads of garlic, ginger and chilli when I feel a cold coming on, and it often helps. I have it hot enough that my nose is streaming. The extra ingredients may pep it up even more.
