In a dilemma should I still see the private Endocrinologist

Hi

As many of you have seen in my previous post.

I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and then later an underactive Thyroid.

I paid to see a private Endocrinologist who diagnosed my Hashimoto’s but, said no medication would help.

Being new to all this I thought he was correct and had no idea about the connection with Hashimoto’s and thyroid.

Thinking the Endocrinologist was right I was left to get worse health wise until my GP stepped in and thyroid bloods were ordered.

I was then put on Levothyroxine as my TSH was 12.2 and T3, T4 out of lab ranges.

With the poor care from my Endocrinologist I started researching and joined this forum.

I followed the Levothyroxine procedure, bloods and increases every 6 weeks etc.

Results looked good, (TSH below 1) got to 125mcg of Levothyroxine, but, I wasn’t well at all I felt so depressed, muscle pains. My GP was getting nervous giving me any more Levothyroxine and to be honest I didn’t want to take it anymore.

I tried adding T3 to T4 but that wasn’t successful, so I tried T3 only.

I took my blood pressure, temperature throughout the day and after stopping Levothyroxine and starting T3 the improvement was very noticeable, I wasn’t quite there with my health but, it was an improvement.

However, when I tried to increase my T3, I developed blocked ears, runny nose, stiff neck and awful headaches. It seems to happen an hour after taking my T3.

Too cut a long story short I’m now on NDT and I’m doing well, I’m only on 2 grains and due an increase next Friday by 1/4 grain, in the meantime whilst I was struggling I booked an appointment with a Endocrinologist on the list provided by Thyroid U.K. who is based in London.

As I’m doing well, I don’t know whether to cancel the appointment (early January).

My fear is that he will not be open to taking NDT, my DHEA levels and hormones levels are low from previous blood tests I’ve taken and I wonder if perhaps he may help in this area.

What I don’t want to do is him to order loads of blood tests costing hundreds of pounds. I also wondered that as my GP doesn’t know I’m self medicating, this endo may help by writing to my GP stating I never got on well with Levothyroxine and they should support me with NDT.

I don’t know what to do, I’m still feeling the cold, but my nutritionist mentioned Raynaud disease as my feet and hands are always cold and my nose is, I still feel a bit flat mood wise, and use to get excited about holidays, I’ve not even planned anything for next year and can’t be bothered with it.

My libido is still low, but, I’m thinking perhaps this is the best I’m going to feel.

My vitamin levels are good as test them regularly and I’m gluten free.

Best Wishes

As you are doing well on NDT, just cancel your appointment. If needs be, you can always make another later on.

As the BTA have now made False Statements about NDT - no matter how people have benefited from 1892 on it, without blood tests - just the skill and knowledge of doctors back then who knew them all.

They got rid of NDT and now T3 leaving levothyroxine (T4 only) the only replacement to be prescribed. Whilst causing immense worry/pain/illhealth through their 'strange' notions of how 'best' to treat patients.

Their disregard for people's pain/suffering shows that these people should not be named 'endocrinologists as it would appear that there's no skill or knowledge to relieve patients symptoms and restore health. Easily done with NDT or T3 to assist recovery if levothyroxine doesn't.

This was from one of our Advisers to the BTA before his death. They never did respond re the issue :-
