I have the article that includes Dr. Toth's recommendations about lab values for TSH, T3 and FT4 when treating hypothyroidism. The problem is his recommendations are expressed differently from how my U.S. lab measures things.
He says "This ‘exogenous subclinical hyperthyroidism’ is not dangerous as long as serum T3 is unequivocally normal – that is, serum total around T3 1.7 nmol/l (reference range 1.0-2.2 nmol/l)."
I was surprised to not find any discussion of FREE T3 goals.
My lab is using a range for T3 expressed as ng/dL (nano-grams per deciliter), so I can't be sure my doctor will be able to make the conversion from nano-moles per liter. My lab gives the range for T3 as 60 - 0981 ng/dL, and my value is 68.
I found a web site that allows me to calculate that 68 ng/dL is the equivalent of 1.05 nmol/L. So my level is about 0.7 nmol/L too low, but I don't think my doctor would willingly go through all kinds of extra steps to figure out these levels. amamanualofstyle.com/page/s...
Are there any publications that discuss treatment goals for hypothyroidism in terms easily understood by U.S. doctors?
