Hi. My husband after more than 25yrs finally diagnosed hypothyroidism. He is taking NDT that he buys off internet. He is better but not fully well. His temperatures vary greatly. Some days 33 or some 34, 35. He feels he is burning up but is cold to touch. He used to pour with sweat although not as severe now. Is there any help for him in addition to NDT? Please help!

When we begin NDT, we usually take a dose approx equal to our previous dose of levothyroxine (or 1/4 tablet which is around 50mcg levo). Then after two weeks we can increase by 1/4 tablet (I am assuming 1 gr) taking note of symptoms that are relieved until there's no clinical symptoms at all.

If on increasing and he feels a bit overdosed, reduce to previous one and that should be daily dose. Sometimes slight adjustment need to be made according to symptoms.

Also B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate have to be optimum too.
