Your wife can always do a private home fingerprick test (or venous blood draw if preferred) from one of our recommended labs. FT3 needs to be tested at the same time as FT4 and TSH, it can't be taken in isolation. She should do this before starting T3.
Also, for any thyroid hormone to work, nutrient levels need to be optimal so testing the following is recommended:
Vit D
B12
Folate
Ferritin
