Going to the hospital and will be getting scathen testing? Has anyone had this before and what was it like?

Well, I googled “scathen” and found... nothing. :)

Forgive me for asking, but have you spelt that right? What’s the test for?

I think that Hezzymc may mean synacthen test, but I'm afraid I don't know anything about it.

Hi,

Have attacked a link about the test from Leeds Teaching Hospital. The timing of the test is crucial and if low cortisol is due to pituitary failure rather than adrenal failure I mentions the synacthen test is not reliable. Therefore, if your symptoms are indicative of cortisol failure and you get a normal result you need further testing. I had the test twice with no adverse affects. Good luck pathology.leedsth.nhs.uk/dn...

Thanks all. Sorry for the wrong spelling! Asking as a friend of mine isn’t getting this test and I am. I think it might be because I have PA

If you mean synacthen test, it's been a long time since I had one, but they just take some blood, then give you an injection, wait and take more blood. You must not take B vitamins containing biotin before the test. It affects people in different ways. I couldn't stop crying, so take tissues just in case. However, it makes some people feel fantastic and others feel nauseous. If it is abnormal, you usually get referred for an adrenal/insulin stress test (very nasty) and/or a CT scan or MRI.

Thanks so much. I will take some tissues with me in case I cry!
