Can you please tell me if any of you are familiar or have been diagnosed with hemochromatosis, too much iron is major organs I have just been diagnosed and doctor told me it's likely it's hereditary. I have had symptoms which mirror low ferritin which he does not understand, the symptoms are dizziness, headaches, irritability, shortness of breath, which are similar to under/overactive thyroid. I have to now got to get my thyroid, liver, kidney and ferritin tested again.
Can you tell me if not enough or too much thyroid medicine can have a detrimental effect on iron.
Thanks you

"Rarely, certain diseases, like hemochromatosis, can deposit abnormal substances (iron, in the case of hemochromatosis) in your pituitary gland, causing central hypothyroidism, or less commonly, your thyroid gland, causing primary hypothyroidism."
Sorry for delay in my reply to you, internet went down.
I do have hashimotos. I went for my annual test on 31/10/2018 and they decided to test ferritin. The results for the ferritin was 549ug-L range is (13-150). As I said in my last post I was showing symptoms that were similar to low ferritin which contradicts the high reading, which would indicate to me noe that my thyroid is off kilter although I don't know if it's over or under. My thyroid results were not at the surgery Friday morning so phoned in the afternoon still not there. So I don't know if I need to reduce or increase. Hopefully I will get the results today.
I couldn't get on with iron fish, so stopped using it and I haven't used ferrous fumerate for a long time neither. However I have been using Soleray adrenal supplements x 6 a daywhich I started when I was on Levothyroxin, should have dropped it down when I started NDT but didn't (forgot), and only just realised that they have quite a bit of iron in them, so I have stopped using them as of yesterday. I have also started looking at foods that will help in my quest to get ferritin down, although I do only eat fresh meat fruit and veg, I stay away from everything processed apart from Birds Eye frozen peas, so trying everything I can to get the levels down.
It's known as Celtic curse in Ireland and Scotland.
I don't drink orange juice and I have also stopped vitamin C, I do have 1/2 squeezed fresh lemon in a tumeric tea, or do I need to cut out the lemon juice?
