This seems very extreme

Is it standard policy?

I would be EXTREMELY reluctant to stop Levothyroxine for two weeks

Can they guarantee to give you T3 (Liothyronine) for immediate thyroid hormones as soon as scan has been done

Perhaps ask Parathyroid support group for more info

Thanks..i can take levothyroxine straight after the scan..cant have t3 as too expensive even though these few days on t3 have been good.i dont know why they put me on t3 for two weeks instead of my usual levothyroxine..i did ask questions but no proper reply..

I had to go two weeks on no meds prior to my sestamibi scan, needless to say my energy levels plummeted and I felt very hypo by the end of it.

A quick look at the protocols for Derby & Leicester hospitals shows no reference in either, to thyroid meds; and the latter states "How to prepare for the Parathyroid Scan - No preparation is needed for the parathyroid scan". The guidance from Hillingdon hospitals states "How do I prepare for a Sestamibi Parathyroid Scan? - There is no special preparation necessary prior to the scan." The leaflet from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals states "Do I need to prepare for the scan? - There is no need to stop any of your medication prior to your scan". Have you queried the abstention with your hospital, and received an explanation for having to go without your thyroid meds?

I didnt ask enough questions which i regret..i have asked over phone now but no sensible answer..onky something to do with me having no thyroid at all due to thyroidectomy..all confusing..im not having anything done after this as i feel like used as guinea pig.this all arose due to high calcium in blood.

Suggest you refuse until they explain, how and why you should stop your essential medication IN WRITING

Or give you T3
