Anyone with an underactive thyroid who was treated between the 1890s and the 1970s, and who became pregnant on that treatment, was most likely to be on Armour Thyroid or another brand of the same product. So there must be many millions of people alive today that exist because their mother or grandmother or great-grandmother took such drugs.
NDTs like Armour have been around far longer than levothyroxine. And bear in mind that Synthroid, which is hugely popular in the US, was only licensed in about the year 2001.

If I was of an age group who could get pregnant, and I had an underactive thyroid, I'd prefer to be stabilised on an NDT than on levothyroxine before I got pregnant.
Thank u, Been on many synthetic and I either have terrible side effects are completely allergic to it so it’s a no go for me and I told the doctor I will lead to people like me to if they can’t take the synthetic and he goes well I don’t want you to take armor because it puts your T4 level and it’s not healthy for the baby it’s OK for you but not for the baby the baby doesn’t get enough in the first trimester and the placenta and so he’s gonna check me a couple weeks and says that’s it if you don’t have good levels you’re going to have to find somebody else
