Hi I was diagnosed with graves disease area months ago.
I'm on crabixamioke
For two weeks now I have been driven mad by chest and back pain just below the shoulders. It only occurs at night time when I'm sleeping. It wakes me up and I'm in absolutely agony. It disappears after about half hour of standing or sitting up. The moment I lie down again it returns. I have no bektchkng or signs of feeling sick. Any ideas as it's driving me nuts and I'm fed up off being woken up. I really need lots of beauty sleep. Painkillers are not working either.
Hey sleeping beauty carbimazole does disrupt the digestive syatem, pain in the shoulders and back could be acid and wind.....i have tummy issues and do get pain in my shoulders, failing that is it the position you are sleeping in? Thyroid disease plays havoc with the whole body. If you have taken painkillers and it has not worked then it could be acid travelling around.😊
As Rmichelle has mentioned, could it be the position you're sleeping in? I get a frightening pain in my chest if I lie on my right side. I'm sure mine is due to costochondritis. Do you have pain in your rib cage? If so, some positions cause your ribs to be squished and this can cause chest and back pain if you have inflamed cartilage between your ribs. If you press on the points on either side where the ribs attach to the sternum and feel pain in one of more places then costochondritis seems very likely. Mine lasts for about 15 minutes if I walk around a bit and/or lie on my back until it's gone. I only get it at night like you. If you decide costochondritis could be the cause, you need to keep your chest open, i.e. prevent your ribs from being squashed together, perhaps by hugging a pillow or lying on your back. There is lots of advice online on dealing with it but mainly it's a question of not putting pressure on the inflamed cartilage.
Of course, costochondritis might not be your problem. Rmichelle and SmallBlueThing have both come up with other possibilities for you to consider. Whatever the cause, I hope you manage to find the answer and start to get a good night's sleep again soon.
