Put on weight whilst taking Amitriptyline?

Have other people found they have put on weight whilst taking Amitriptyline? My doctor increased my dosage to 25mg due to my pain level, but it doesn't seem to help. I had wanted to change to Gabapentin but he was not keen for me to do so.

Hi TLTracy, I don't know if this helps but I didn't put on weight because of Amitriptyline, I'm Hypo so as with a lot of us weight gain is a symptom. I took Amitriptyline as I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia along with my Hypo. After research, I didn't believe I had Fibro, so I came off the Amitriptyline, but haven't lost weight since - still struggling with that. D

Hi Tracy, I have amitriptyline for Post-stroke neuralgia. Pain Clinic want me to lower the dose from 75mg to none but it is really help! I have always had a weight problem and had lost 5 stone, because of the stroke I gained 7 stone (!) but Slimming World as help me lose nearly 3 stone. So... I don’t think the drug make you gain if you look after your food intake at usual. Gabapentine can make you gain as well!. Hope you can find something to help with the pain!
