Hi all, just been to see the Endo got to take 20 mg of carbimazole then stop taking the beta blockers after a week and go for 2 scans I told him my worries over taking the medication he said I had no choice and you were all right I mentioned the antibodies and asked him was it hashis or graves and he completely dismissed it saying it wasn’t important and wasn’t high enough to worry about xx
Just a update: Hi all, just been to see the Endo... - Thyroid UK
Just a update
Suggest you test them yourself then
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If TPO or TG antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease). If TPO or TG antibodies are slightly high this may be Graves
Private testing for suspected Graves - TSI or TRab antibodies
medichecks.com/thyroid-func...
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's and Graves. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once . Plus TSI or TRab antibodies tested if Graves is suspected

Do you know what scans they are sending you for ?
These NICE CKS guidelines aren't mandatory, but you could ask your endo why he isn't following them.
