Here's hoping that the combination of thyroid and B12 guidelines from NICE reaps its potential to help a very large number of people.
Well done to the PAS people.
WE’VE DONE IT!
Today (17th October) we received an email from the Director of Guidelines at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). They have been formally requested by NHS England to produce a Guideline on the Diagnosis and Management of Pernicious Anaemia.
This decision fulfills the main aim of the Society which was to get the way in which Pernicious Anaemia is diagnosed and treated thoroughly reviewed. The NICE Guideline will hopefully achieve this aim.
This is really great news for those that suffer from PA. Too late for my Dad who was on monthly B12 injections but in recent years reduced to 3 monthly which resulted in B12 levels well below 500, so he now has severe neuropathy. Lets hope its not too long before things improve for PA sufferers and that thyroid sufferers get similar better treatment from NHS from better NICE guidelines.
Same here. They were determined that my Dad had dementia and wouldn't even test his B12 (even though his twin was having injections). By the time he was tested it was too late to reverse the damage.
Thank you for this post and link helvella. At long last... Indeed congratulation to Martyn Hooper and his team.
However it will take NICE 3 years.... so I doubt any GP or other medical professional will change their ignorant and obtuse minds just yet! But progress...
