Yes,

I had a problem with my calcium levels after TT in June. The day after surgery I was extremely achey in my arms and especially in my knees, and I felt tingly. I felt like I couldn't lift my arms. It was as though I lifted weights for 24 hours and didn't stop. My surgeon had me take chewable calcium. I was taking 3 a day, and now am down to one a day.

He told me it was a possibility before surgery. Your parathyroids get disturbed and interfere with calcium production. Eventually, if there's no permanent damage you can wean off the calcium. I also had my parathyroid level checked.

I hope this is helpful.

I didn't have that throat problem, but everyone reacts differently. I'm 3 months post op and at different times during the day I feel a lump in my throat?? It's so weird. Some days I never feel it. Stay positive, I actually feel better now than I have the past 3 years. I was also having pain in my neck. I had a large goiter (5 cm), not really visible, but growing inward, and now I have no more pain.

Good luck and be patient.

Thank you I have just had a call from the hospital and they told me I need to go back to have my calcium checked now. Hopefully they give me some more medication.

When I had my thyroid removed I was sent home with calcium tablets and had a nurse come to the house to do my blood test. After only a week I was rung by the surgeons secretary who told me to stop using the calcium tablets as my parathyroids had kicked in and were working as before the op.

It's different in the UK I know, did your surgeon replanted your parathyroids and how many.
