4-5 month ago told I was hyper. A shock as I had no symptoms. Feel fine sleeping fine. I have an appt to see endo person in 2 weeks. I had a letter today requesting I have a tpo test. To ring when done I will be pc treatment before appt. not really happy to start any treatment without knowing cause. Is this normal practice. Clean eating I have gone gf and dairy free to try and get levels down. I still don’t have symptoms but my neck is a bit swollen base of neck no pain or discomfort. I really hate blood tests. Are there any other tests I would need to have them all together. Thankyou

I have come across a few people who do not have symptoms and are being diagnosed as hyper.I think it is part of the whole blood test led treatment. Hyperthyroidism can lead to heart problems and bones issues if left untreated but I am not convinced that people are hyper based on TSh results alone. Can you get hold of your blood results and post and can you also take your pulse and temperature first thing in the morning. Have you lost weight? People can feel quite well when hyper, a bit elated sometimes without realising. I have become very into being symptoms led re myown health. I think we know when we are ill and that are symptoms almost always proceed real problems.
No weight loss bp normal for me pulse 70 temp normal no overheating in May my TSH. was 0.01 t4 34. T316. I feel tired when I go to bed feel tired when I wake up. That about it really
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Ask Gp to test all these....though your very unlikely to get FT3 or TG antibodies
TPO test is to see if these are raised due to autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's (starts hyper, ends up hypo)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or both antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
Before accepting a diagnosis of Graves' disease, endo should run test for TSI or Trab antibodies

TPO is not for overactive thyroid, it's for Hashimotos (underactive autoimmune thyroid disease). You might just be having a Hashis attack when part of the thyroid is destroyed and dumps a lot of hormones into the bloodstream making your results look overactive. Afterwards you have less thyroid so you become more underactive. The correct test for overactive is TSI or TRab (for Graves disease). If it is Hashis, it'll go back to normal or underactive on its own and you don't need carbimazole or anything else to suppress the thyroid if you have no symptoms. Post your full results for TSH, Free T4, Free T3 and whatever antibodies they test (with ranges) for comments and advice.
