NDT with no fillers?

Does anyone know of any NDT brands without fillers? I was looking into Tirosint (Levothyroxine) but it's just too expensive for me. I'm currently going without thyroid medication as the reactions to fillers are worse than the relief it gives me. If you can recommend a brand, and have a source, please private message me. Thank you.

There is no NDT without fillers. As it's made of pigs' thyroid (in powder form), it has to be made into tablet form so it has to have some excipients to be able to do that.

Here is a list of different brands of NDT and what they contain:

In the USA, the Thyroid USP powder that is used to make desiccated thyroid products itself contains excipients (a word that includes fillers and, as in Thyroid USP case, diluents).

The dried thyroids are cleaned and powdered. Then they blend this pure dried thyroid powder with sucrose or lactose (I think a few other substances are also allowed). I don't know the exact details but you can imagine a load of jars. Some have "strong" powder, others have "weak" powder". Add a bit of sugar to the strong, and mix with the weak until you get a consistent product. It is impossible to achieve this standardisation without using something as a diluent.

RLC use desiccated thyroid powder that contains small quantities of lactose and add Inulin (from chicory) and Medium Chain Triglycerides (from coconut) to make their tablets. Shame it is not currently available. :-( All other desiccated thyroid products contain more excipients but that absolute amount might not vary much.

Thank you helvella. It seems I react to everything, so I guess I just have to go without for now.

Hi HypoHden! Do you mind me asking what symptoms you are experiencing? I have moved to NDT two months ago and I am experiencing body and joint aches that I never had before. Not sure if I have t hit my sweet spot dose yet or it’s the fillers. Other old symptoms like fatigue, feeling cold, brain fog gone so that’s a positive ☺️

How much t4 where you on before going on NDT ? What dose are you on with your NDT ? It might be that the dose your on needs some tweaking . And adding nutrients like vitamin "D" /K2 , B-Complex , B-12/folate , Iron if your ferritin is low , Magnesium . Supporting your adrenals with Vitamin "C" , B-5 , Celtic Sea Salt for your electrolytes . Adrenals and thyroid work in unison .

All my nutrients are optimal but Vitamin D which I supplement, also take K2, B complex, Magnesium, Selenium, Vitamin C and Lysine. I’m not low on Ferritin I had two IVs. My adrenals are fine I can raise with no issues. Just wondering with body aches as that’s a new symptom I have t had before but old symptoms are gone.

Hey Anna, sorry for the late reply. I've been out of it since coming off my thyroid hormones.

Body aches and joint aches are definitely huge symptoms I get from the fillers, they can also be from food intolerance's though. They also cause me to itch, and impact my mood strongly.

No worries, thanks you for replying 🙂 that makes me wonder whether my aches are from fillers...

Hi, what NDT brand are you taking? I used to take WP thyroid and had achy joints the entire time but never realized it was the medicine until I ran out and couldn’t get anymore. Nature throid was even worse than WP thyroid. I find that strange considering WP thyroid is supposed to be void of bad fillers. I tried a compounded thyroid and I’m fine on that but now I can’t get it .. “nation wide shortage” .. so now I’m left with trying NP thyroid. So he nt started it yet but very nervous, I definitely don’t want the joint pain back., it was crippling.

Hey! Im on Thyroid-S. I have a pot of compounded waiting until I run out but actually having read what you said I might give it a go now and see if the achines would go away. It is crippling yes, I’ve never felt so stiff in my life. Like I can nearly bend and I’m 32 😮

Yes let me know how it goes, hoping it gets better! Have you ever tried NP thyroid? Having run out of my compounded and not able to get anymore 😢 I am forced to try this one one..

I have never tried it no, sorry. Thyroid-S was my first stunt at NDT. My doctor prescribed me compounded but I thought I’d use up Thyroid-S first but think tomorrow I’ll switch test it out ☺️ will let you know how it goes!!!

If it's filler that is. Aiding an allergic reaction then to test that theory then take an anti histamine one hour before your dose and if that makes things better than it's filler but otherwise it's more likely to something else.

I'm on the carnivore diet, and take no other supplements of any kind - so it's literally the only thing I consume other than beef, water and salt

I take your point but we can get an allergy at anytime even on things we have been OK on or maybe some other medication/supplements has had a change of fillers. So was waiting to rule that out first and if that doesn't show anything then may be its another symptom of being under active as there are over 300.
