Headaches, pressure on the head after levothiroxin

Hi,

Has anyone felt headaches and pressure on the head after starting taking you levothiroxin medication? In this case 50ug.

Is this normal?

If it is, how long to go away?

If not why it happens?

What to do?

Could the brand quality be related?

Can someone give their feedback and what followed after you started to feel like that? Like for example, doctor changed the brand, lower the dose, take something else at same time, etc.

Best regards.

Hi I started with massive headaches straightaway was loosing 2 to 3 days a week in bed with head pounding and sickness. Realised ( long story cut short) it was the brand. My prescription now goes straight to chemist that always order the same brand for me have had no problems since

It can happen when your body is adjusting. Happened to me on both Levothyroxin and NDT.

Thanks both for the reply.

Nick, how long did it take to adjust?

My memory isn’t the best, but the pain reduced slowly over a couple of months.

For real? No way. But right now do you still have these headaches?

Have notice anything during the months in terms of symptoms?

Another thing, have tested your TSH, ft3 ft4 t3 and T4? Before and after? What were the results? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I have headaches now, but Im sure it’s from pressure on a nerve in the neck.

I get regular blood tests. Usually when I travel abroad. The last one a couple of weeks ago. There’s been very little difference in the results, they always show everything mid or slightly above. The only anomaly was earlier in the year when I was on NT. I became very ill, bloods showed under T3 and T4. I had got myself to the point that I didn’t know where I was re doseage.

It was amazing how quickly your system could go downhill when the dose is incorrect. The initial symptoms are the same over or under doseage, which threw me. I reduced my doseage when I should have increased.

There’s a lot to be said for self medicating as you can see by some of the amazing transformations on this forum. But you have to be diligent, logical and go slowly slowly.

Thanks for you reply. The doctor prescribed 50ug o levothiroxin however my girlfriend is feeling big headaches and pressure on the head. She best describes it like if the veins on the head were completely full of blood trying to blow.

Now that said first thing g we thought was that the dose was too high. But now you are saying that for both over or under dosage have the same symptoms.

I'd say that sounds more to me like sensitivity to one of the ingredients in levothyroxine. Years back when I started taking one brand of levo I had headaches every day till I picked another brand from a different pharmacy. It would suggest also to try antihistamines an hour before taking levo and see if she still has headache. If yes then it's best to replace it with another brand. She might be able to exchange what she still has in the pharmacy she picked it up from, some allow this if you ask them.
