Hi everyone I have been on 20 mg of the drug for over six weeks now and you can see my blood results below that were taken on July 18 and August 29.

T4 free level was 25 in July now 27 lab range 9 to 19

T3 free level was 15 in July now 17 lab range 2.6 to 5.7

I have my first appointment with endcronogist on Monday

In your shoes I would want anti-bodies tested for both Hashimotos and Graves - so all four ...

Ditto what Marz has said.

We have seen a plethora of posts lately where a member has been precribed carbimazole for hyperthyroidism/Graves and no antibody test has been done to confirm this diagnosis. It's very worrying.

As has been pointed out a few times in reply to your previous posts, it could also be Hashi's as antibody fluctuations can cause suppressed TSH and high hormone levels with that.

You really need TPO and TG antibodies tested for Hashi's and TSI/TRab antibodies tested for Graves to be absolutely certain that your diagnosis is correct and that you are prescribed the correct medication.

I presume that the endcronogist will ask for these tests on Monday are they just done via a normal blood test

Yes they are blood tests, but don't assume they will just get done. Ask for them to make sure, and make sure that all 4 are tested.

For Graves - TSI/TRab

For Hashi's - TPO/TG

Also, as most endocrinologists are diabetes specialists and not thyroid specialists (you can look yours up on the hospital website) they don't always understand about treating thyroid disease, so another reason to make sure you get all those tests done.

According to the qehb website mine specialises in thyroid functions

I agree with the other posts. Rmichelle’s comment too. My endo did test for Graves (negative) not for Hashi’s! His only comment has always been - Carbi will get the thyroid back under control. Probably you will need to do the antibody tests privately. My gp recently told me - we don’t test antibodies under NHS. It will take time for the thyroid to settle again and ideally you would want to know what else is happening - adrenals for instance. Others will be helpful in posting about the vitamin/mineral testing which would be a good idea. Also it will be important for you as this is a first appointment whether you do see the endo or whether it is someone in the team. I have found it is simply who you see on the day and what their opinion/advice is. This forum will help enormously with information so you can make informed choice.

Take care. x
