Palpitations now added to the list ....

Morning everyone

I’m trying to get my hypothyroidism under control with levo (75grms at the moment)

and also taking vitamins

As I’m also menopausal, I also use progesterone cream- Elan

During the night I had really strong heart palpitations, is this yet another symptom of hypothyroidism ?

Look forward to your replies

I would suspect you’re still a little undermedicated - so probably. My heart rate increases when I’m not optimally replaced with thyroid hormones.

But may I ask what you mean by palpitations? People mean different things when they say that - for example, that their heart rate is faster or that they can hear it in their ears but it’s not actually faster or that their hearts really are skipping beats etc.

It might help to work out what’s going on in your case. Your ferritin results looked ok a couple of months ago but with a TSH of 2.94 on 50mcg, 75mcg still might not be enough yet.

Hi Jazzw

My heart rate was much faster, thudding loudly (but it was in the middle of the night !)

OK. That could be due to lots of things. I find that sometimes (but confusingly, not always!) I can’t have alcohol or sugar or caffeine without it affecting my heart rate. Additionally, you could be fighting off a virus or other infection, or if you have Hashi’s, a Hashi’s flare. So, lots of potential reasons. Did it slow down again?

Hi Jazz

I’ve not had a virus, that I know of !

I don’t have hashi’s either .... maybe not thyroid related at all,

yes, it slowed after about 40 minutes

That would seem to make it a bit less likely it was thyroid related then. If it happens again, see if you can spot any similar circumstances. And if it keeps happening, well, it would probably be best to see your doctor.

Thanks Jazzw

When I sat and thought about it, I realised, that evening, we’d eaten quite a large meal, washed down with red wine ...... perhaps this was the cause (?)

Thanks for your replies

Wine has certainly done it to me in the past! That could be it... :)
