I had an appointment last week at the Doctors because I keep getting a pain the lower right side of my abdomen, Doctor has arranged a scan and also took bloods.
My potassium level has come back below range, at 3.3 range 3.50 - 5.30
My sodium although in range is at the high end at, 143 range 138 - 144
I have been ask to have the blood test repeated.
Does anyone know if the low potassium is connected to having hypothyroidism and taking levothyroxine.
Thank you.

Getting potassium from food is the way to go. Avocadoes also have potassium. Do not take potassium supplements, unless prescribed by a doctor for very low levels. Too much potassium can cause a heart attack.
I no longer take Levothyroxine, haven't for almost 2 years and my numbers look like that also. I drink lots of coconut water to keep my potassium up. My TSH is currently normal, but after some research, I think when your potassium is low and sodium is high, it is likely an adrenal problem.
Thank you for your reply, I have also read low potassium and high sodium can be an adrenal problem, something to do with aldosterone. Just got results back after Doctor re tested and potassium has crept up to 3.8 and sodium dropped t 142, so now both in range.
I don't know if low potassium is related to hypothyroidism and taking levothyroxine, but I do the same as jenniferarchiba and drink at least 8 oz of coconut water everyday. I was in the ER last year with heart palpitations (Premature Ventricular Contractions) and the doctor prescribed 16 oz of coconut water daily, because low potassium can cause heart irregularities. I've been better ever since.
Thank you, just got results from re test and potassium has now crept up to 3.8 so now in range.
Good to hear the coconut water is working for you.
Hi, I also have low potassium levels, currently 2.9 and prescribed sando-k. Same thing happened last year, and I got sent for tests with an Endo, but he found nothing. Doctors say they see a lot of potassium deficiency in the summer, but yours isn't too low. PS I'm also at the top of the sodium range 145. Definately don't self medicate potassium!
