Hi

As many do I enjoy a herbal tea

At the weekend I bought a new one to try until I read the list of ingredients which are : liquorice , root burdock , chicory, ginseng, hawthorn leaves with flowers

I vaguely remember reading something about Liquorice root and Hypothyroidism , but can’t remember if you should avoid it or not

Thanks x

Licorice raises blood pressure. I took licorice for a while some years ago, but I can't remember why now. I had to give it up because it raised my blood pressure so much. I even tried DGL Licorice which (allegedly) has the chemical which raises BP removed, and this is supposed to make licorice safe. But I wonder how many manufacturers of DGL Licorice follow any kind of guidelines on how much of the stuff they remove? Do such guidelines exist? What is certain for me is that even DGL Licorice raised my BP so I can't take it.

Hawthorn has several effects on the heart and is supposed to lower BP. You can buy hawthorn supplements on Amazon - read some of the reviews and do some research before taking it. I've considered taking it myself, but like so many things I never got round to it.

I've never investigated the other things listed.

Go to Google, type in Dandelion Tea into the search box, then click on the "Shopping" link below the search box.

There are loads of brands available, but mostly online. Waitrose sells dandelion, fennel and ginger tea, if that's any help.

Liquorice raises cortisol, if that's an issue for you. English hawthorn will lower BP. Usually young shoots are used for this & to help the heart. Afraid I don't about hawthorn leaves & flowers.

These products should carry a health warning ⚠️. Thank you for your advise . No wonder the manufacturer didn’t want to divulge any info .

Agree! People tend to naively believe that herbs are safe or neutral. Herbs can have potent effects.
