Intrauterine System (IUS) birth control and hypothyroid

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone had any good info on or experience of hypothyroidism and the intrauterine system / IUS method of birth control? In particular does progestogen interact with levothyroxine at all?

I’ve been taking the combi pill for many years but have come off it partially because of the issues with absorbtion and oestrogen with levo (although I always took the pill and levo 12hrs apart) and because I’d prefer to reduce the amount of hormones I’m putting into my body.

I’m told by the doctor that there shouldn’t be an interaction but sceptical given that they didn’t recognise the interaction of oestrogen and levo! 🤔

Thanks Louise and no worries. I struggled to find any advice anywhere on the internet or in the search here so suspected it might be something folks had little experience with.
