Itching especially at night

Hi I wonder if anyone can advise why I am itching all over my body especially at night it is driving me nuts am waiting for results from recent blood test, so far all my results have been normal I am taking Thyroxine 50mgs. Thanks, any good remedies would be gratefully received so I can get a good nights sleep 😴 I

I’ve been taking an antihistamine for a couple of nights and it did help me sleep. No I’m not jaundiced, thanks for your reply 😊

Did the itching start with change in brand of Levothyroxine? Not all brands suit everyone.

50mcg Levothyroxine is only a starter dose. Most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine

You perhaps need dose increase

What were your most recent blood test results and ranges

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

That happened to me when my dose of Levothyroxine was increased from 25 to 50. It drove me mad as well BUT after a while it stopped.

I’ve had this on and off. It can also be a symptom of peri or full menopause, linked to drops in oestrogen levels. So might not be thyroid related.
