Hoping someone can help interpret my coeliac screening result. My doctor said no action required but I’ve picked it up today and I had a few questions:
Anti Tissue Transglutaminase IgA <0.1 (0-7)
Serilogically negative for coeliac disease.
I have Hashimotos and wondered if gluten may have been a trigger so asked for this test. I’m very happy not to worry about eating gluten but the IgA range puts me right at the bottom but I’ve no idea if that’s good/ bad, denotes sensitivities or is nothing to worry about.
Thanks I’m advance!

You're absolutely fine. The coeliac antibodies can climb pretty high. They'd maybe retest you in the future if you'd come back with a result of 5. The coeliac test tops out at 180, so <0.1 is about as negative as you can be.
It could still be worth a 30 day trial following a gluten free diet, to see if it helps your Hashimotos symptoms.
The coeliac screen means you don't have coeliac disease, but only 5% with Hashimotos also have coeliac, while 75% say they noticed an improvement in symptoms when they cut gluten out. Unfortunately the only way to know it's to go for a while without.
I know the pasta substitutes are awful though! I think the best I've tried is the green split pea pasta that you buy from Morrisons.
I did strict GF for 6 weeks and didn’t feel any different. I reintroduced for the coeliac test and again had no reaction despite the abstinence. So thinking in probably OK. I don’t eat loads of bread, pasta etc but occasionally do and would obviously prefer not to be restricted! I have to say I only found out I had Hashimotos through trying for a baby, I otherwise felt totally fine in myself. I don’t feel any worse or better for being medicated really. Sadly I did not lose a stone as hoped 😂
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
THanks slow dragon. I didn’t test antibodies- have done on past but not as part of GF experiment.
Have had all tests done and all ok and my tsh is now v low 0.1-0.3 so slightly lower than lab range (0.4). Am 6 weeks pregnant but advised not to increase dose yet but feel uncertain it’s correct advice.GP spoke to endo at kings who agreed based on my tests but I’d dosed that morning. I read somewhere that tsh level won’t be altered by that but meds before test do give a false T4 reading. My T4 was quite high 21- but within range. I may pay for private tests with T3 for my own peace of mind.
I'd say if you managed the 6 week gluten challenge after being GF for 6 weeks and had no ill effects, you are ok with gluten. Put it this way, most people with gluten intolerance or coeliac disease can't manage more than 3 days back on gluten...
I know about silent coeliac - my OH was one, and I've met many silent coeliacs since his diagnosis. Aftert 6 weeks on a gluten free diet though, a coeliac gets severe symptoms from eating gluten again. Even just if something was fried in the same oil as an onion ring.
