Very interesting question, I don't have a definitive answer but have asked both my doctor and chemist the same about drugs to be told there is nothing on their systems to show any contras for hashimotos.

Will be good to see if others have any info on this matter

This is an interesting question! Where I live (not UK) Demerol is used as an anaesthetic for colonoscopies. I have had to have several of these in recent years and it always takes at least a week to recover from them. Could this be due to my Hashimotos?

If you are on stomach acid lowering medication, such as Omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor) it's best not to take it because Hashis apparently reduces stomach acid. But the leaflet with the medication should tell you about that too. It said to discuss with chemist or doctor if you are on certain medication.

If I remember, there are some kinds of antibiotics you need to be aware of too.

Have you taken the chemist a list of the medications you are on? They should be able to explain more tell you if any of them are contra.

Last year I clobbered my back. For 3 days all of my mental and physical energy was concentrated on how I could get from my bed to the toilet. The next three days it was from my bed to the sofa and then from the sofa to my car. As soon as I got to the car I went to the doctors. The doc put me on steroids and as I was waiting for my prescription it finally dawned on me to ask if steroids interacted with thyroid meds. The pharmacist said, "Oh, yes, that's a good question" and he looked it up in a number of books and charts. He concluded: "No, there are no reports of interactions and you are perfectly OK to go"!. Well BULLSHIT, there is an interaction between steroids and thyroid meds! So the moral to this little tale is that you have to do your own research.

I have had three random types of anesthetics since being on thyroid meds and I am still alive, that's all I can tell you, well, I had a bad headache after one dental anesthetic, that's all.

I have recently discovered via MIMS online that Sertraline (anti-depressant) is contra indicated with Liothyronine. I was on sertraline for 20 years whilst on T3! Also I had a hip replacement and the morphine I was given made me fairly insane. But I think morphine tends to do that to most people? My sister who doesn't have thyroid probs said she was off her head on morphine coming round from an operation.
