I am glad your GP has prescribed. Ideally you should not split your doses as it could mean we cannot find a 'window' in which our stomach is completely empty. I shall give you some links from one of our Advisers who has since died (RIP) he was a humane doctor and all he wanted to do was relieve the disabling symptoms patients had.
It is good your doctor has prescribed. I shall give you some linkes below - they are tinyurls and copy and paste each one as they are now archived.
When we start on a dose of NDT, we begin with a dose roughly equal to the amount of levo we were taking, always take note of your symptoms etc and when relieved. You then add 1/4 tablet (of 1 grain) every two weeks until you are symptom-free. The purpose is for T3 within NDT is to saturate our T3 receptor cells and its effect can last between one to three days as it sends out 'waves'. These are the links.
So, you went from 150 mcg levo to 1.5 grains of NDT? That's 57 mcg T4 and 13.5 mcg T3. if we take it that T3 is 3 times 'stronger' than T4, that makes 40.5 mcg T4 + 57 mcg T4 = 97.5 mcg T4. Even if we take it that T3 is 4 times 'stronger' than T4, that still doesn't equal 150 mcg. That's one hell of a reduction in dose he gave you, there. He should have started you on 2 grains. So, if I were you, I'd increase by 1/2 a grain, this time. But, in future, increases should only be by 1/4 grain every two weeks. However, if I were you, I'd stay on 2 grains for six weeks and then retest.
Did you get all your nutrients optimised before you started NDT? According to your last post, you hadn't done that. NDT will not 'work' for you if your nutrients are not optimal.
I see you're taking copper. Did you get your copper tested before starting it? Hypos are usually high in copper and low in zinc. So, taking more copper is not recommended. I suggest you get your copper tested now.
Hello all
My apologies for not responding before now.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, for all the helpful advice I have been given on the forum.
I have been on Nature -Throid for nearly a month ( currently on two grains a day).
The improvement in symptoms has been remarkable.
* My hair loss has stopped and I have soft downy hair growing over the bald patches
* Hair is thicker,
* Skin plagued by acne and dry patches is clearing up
* Feel less 'brain foggy'
* Have started to gain some energy enabling me to exercise
* Muscles are less sore and achy
* Not feeling so cold etc
I still suffer from slight fatigue, but iron levels have come back all in range, so I plan to increase the grains by another half and see if that will help.
Again, a big thank you and I will post an update in the next couple of weeks.
