Changing dose

Hi everyone it’s me again. Iv been taking 87.5 levythroxine daily. By taking 3 x 25 then breaking a 25 in half. You can appreciate this is a pain in the arse. So If I take 4x 25 = 100 one day and 3x25 = 75 the next, so 100, 75 alternate days will i feel ok? I mean taking 100 all in one hit, as I’m prone to terrible anxiety. It will work out the same 87.5 daily just cba breaking the tabs up no more. Wish they done them in 20s then I’d just take 80mcg daily. So to be clear after only taking 87.5 daily, if I take 100 on the alternate day will it affect me on the day, ie fast heart beat, jittery, anxiety? What a palava all this is. But I’m sick of the symptoms tiredness, anxiety, mood swings. Just want to stick to a dose few months see if that helps. Thanks n peace out X ps I’m 8 months post TT, and they were my last blood results, my previous are on my page. Bin told to lower to 75mcg but I’m scared to. Everything else ok, sept for the above symptoms. My vits were all fine on the previous blood test. And i always have a blood test before meds or food/drink . .

I was on 162.50 per day as 150 was too little and 175 too high. The doc told me to take 150 one day and 175 the next and I never noticed anything untoward x

Hi Orla. Thanks, what does that work out a day? It seems a v high dose too me. Are u ok on that? Dyu not get any symptoms? Im very sensitive to anything and everything. And when I had my TT they put me on 125 I had terrible anxitey, so been terrified to take a 100, as worried the 100 in 1 hit might be too much. I might just have to keep breaking the tablets. It’s not all bad eh, wv a lot to be grateful for, like each other.

Well I need the high dose as my thyroid had pretty much packed in aged 22, my TSH was 36. I feel fine because it’s what my body needs and that dose keeps my levels correct. Good luck with it x

Levo is T4, the storage hormone. It takes at least a week to have any sort of effect, so I very much doubt that taking 100 mcg in a day will have any immediate effect. If you then take 75 the next day, it will even itself out over time. Lots of people dose like that.

I very much doubt if it's the levo causing your anxiety. It's the low FT3. There are no ranges, but if it's the ranges we normally see on here, then your problem is that you aren't converting properly. I would advise you to get hold of the ranges to be sure, and then have a chat with your doctor about your low conversion. The only way to deal with that is to reduce your dose of levo and add in some T3. That's not going to help your TSH. But, to be honest, we don't give two hoots about the TSH. :)

What are your main symptoms?

Suggest you get full private testing of thyroid and vitamins after 6 (or ideally) 8 weeks on unchanging dose (what ever dose you decide that is)

Hi slow dragon my main symptoms, anxiety, mood swings, fatigue. If i have one good day, I’m done in for the next 3. Doc just ordered new blood test. Testing for T4, T3 thyroid antibodies. B12, SF, TFT, TVD FBC and ferritin. I’ll get it on Monday before I take my Levo

Thanks grey goose but they insist I’m converting ok cos my T3 is ok 🤔 they said they wouldn’t even consider additional T3 in my case 😔 . .

But we already know from your previous post healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

that you aren't converting T4 to T3 well enough. Even though you haven't got reference ranges, it's obvious that FT4 is too high and your FT3 is too low.

FT4: 25

FT3: 4.7

As mentioned, good conversion takes place when the FT4:FT3 ratio is between 3:1 and 4:1 and yours is 25:4.7 = 5.31 : 1

So now you have to decide whether you go along with your doctor or whether you help yourself, many of us have been in this situation and decided to not allow our doctors to keep us ill any more.

You are most likely under medicated.

An adequate dose of Levo is usually somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg. Some needing T3 as well
