Hello to everyone

I wondered if anyone here has any experience of using Tyrosine or any knowledge of it being used as an aid to helping with thyroid condition, I ask as I am concerned about using it as it had been suggested to me by someone I know, I have hashimotos and due an update blood test soon.

Thank you all, any advice would be very well appreciated.

I've never heard of anyone suffering from tyrosine deficiency, although I suppose it must be possible. But, I don't see how tyrosine is going to help your thyroid when the problem is your immune system destroying it. There's nothing actually wrong with your thyroid except that it is being slowly destroyed by your immune system.

I did quite a lot of research online to see if tyrosine would be helpful for someone with Hashimotos, beginning with tapping tyrosine into the search box on this forum.Always my first step.

I also like Web MD even though I'm aware it is owned by the Boots Company.

I came to the conclusion that it is not a good supplement if you have an underactive thyroid.

Like iodine, tyrosine is one of the building blocks of thyroxine. However, unless you are severely protein deficient, it's unlikely to make any difference as pretty much every protein food contains tyrosine: chicken, turkey milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, many nuts etc. having said that, long before I was actually hypo, taking a tyrosine supplement did give me a mental boost. I don't have hashis, so my thyroid is pretty much intact.
