Help! My recent blood test I was on t3 30mcg daily then the test
Plasma TSH 0.05 0.30-4.20
Plasma free T4 <5.2 9.00-19.00
Plasma free T3 4.9 2.60-5.70
Lab has suggested to cut T3 to 20mcg daily and my GP has done that. I feel awful i am 80 years old can't even go upstairs no energy. Useless to see GP as I waited 10 weeks for appt. last time.

Why were you taking 30-40mcg daily, why not the same amount every day? As your FT3 was at the top of the range, I think if you had reduced to 30mcg daily only then retest after 6 weeks, your FT3 might have been slightly reduced and be more acceptable to your doctor, and I don't think you would have been feeling so bad as you are now.
And to be honest, what has it got to do with the lab, they're only interested in numbers, it's not their place to be advising what dose a patient needs when they're not doctors and don't know the patient.
I would suggest to your GP that you put your dose back up to 30mcg daily, stick at that and retest in 6 weeks. As long as your FT3 doesn't go over range there is no problem. Any further dose changes I would want in 5mcg increments.
Hi Thanks Since my last post I was taking 30mcg T3 daily until the recent blood test on the 24 April where my Endo consultant ask Gp to reduce it. So I am now on 20mcg to have blood test in 2 months time.
Just to add all the time they are saying it's costly but I had bad side effect to thyroxin previously it took me two years fight to get T3
So on 30mcg daily your free T3 was 4.9 (2.60-5.70). In that case I don't see a problem. Your TSH and FT4 are going to be low because you're on T3 only, your FT3 is 74% through range which is a good place to be if you feel well. You don't need a reduction in dose. I expect the lab is going by your TSH only, which is ridiculous and your doctor should know that it's going to be low when on just T3.
Have you got enough tablets to increase your dose back to what it was?
I would ask your GP to consider the fact that your FT3 was well within range on 30mcg T3, that you now feel very unwell after your dose has been reduced by one third, and that if the lab's advice is based on your TSH result that is inappropriate. It's not your fault that you do badly on Levo and that T3 is costly, the cost issue is down to ineffective purchase management by the NHS and it's not your problem, it's theirs.
