What has your GP said?

Any other test results?

Hi!

These were done April 2018, I am waiting on ones done last week.

GP has said she can't understand why I could have a high TSH and over range FT4!

If they were done last week the results will be back by now. Post your new results when you have them, not much point in commenting on your old ones when your new ones could be totally different.

And if your GP comes out with a similar statement in future, suggest that as she doesn't understand it can she make enquiries from an endocrinologist or refer you to one.

I have an appointment today to discuss new ones.

Hi, ask for FT3 levels too from your results :-)

Early stage autoimmune thyroid disease (also called Hashimoto's) causes hypothyroidism. (High TSH) But fluctuations in levels of hormones as thyroid is attacked can cause temporary high levels of FT4

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.

Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies.

Plus very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
