Possible help ...HRT

I am 66 yrs old now and had been diagnosed with an under active thyroid at the young age of 29

As the weeks past taking Levo I was getting worse and worse

Back to the doctor with trembling, shaking, boiling so badly that my husband couldn’t sleep next to me, palpitations and anxiety, panic attacks. Dr had to be called out finding nothing wrong. Still suffering I struggled on as i had three children to look after, i kept feeling i needed something sweet and felt a lot better afterwards. Another day i fell to the floor near past out and unable to come too fully. Ambulance was called. Water test was needed at the hospital. I pee for England, which i found very strange? My water works has never been the same since. They couldn’t find anything wrong AGAIN. Went back to the doctors and while I was waiting in the waiting room something came over me making me feel like I had just gone down with the flu yet worse. Talking to the doctor, he advised me to consent to go into a mental hospital as he felt I was depressed ( I did tell him ‘if I was I would for sure tell him I was depressed) the medication he wants me to have has to be supervised. I ended up giving in just to get better. I ended up having to lie myself out of there saying i was fine now (I wasn’t) I could go on and on telling you the fight i had on to get help. I decided to ask this other doctor to put me on HRT (she did) I took Premarin. I have never looked back. All my symptoms disappeared. I do still have an underactive thyroid but they say you will always have it.

I don’t take the HRT now because of the age I am so sometimes a little shaking comes on but not for long

I do hope I have been able to help

X

Your experience is extremely helpful. What some people have to go through due to inept doctors and endocrinologists.

They are always quick to diagnose a 'clinical symptom' but cannot join up the dots that the patient needs thyroid hormones.

Do you have the results of a recent blood test? If so, post the results with the ranges. If you don't have them today put up a new post.

Do you allow a gap of 24 hours between your dose of levo and the test? Do you have your blood test at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water)? If not follow this method may be in your favour. TSH is highest early a.m. and drops throughout the day.
