HRT trial

I have been experiencing high temperature at night with abdominal pain and lower back pain. My endo said could be due to hormones and has suggested I try HRT patches for a month to see if this could be the cause. He said that's the only way to find out and rule it out. The leaflet is like war and peace, and I notice thyroid issues mentioned and migraines. I don't want to make things worse as I have been struggling with pain day and especially night for a long time. Also I'm having thyroid bloods done in 7 days and don't want to mess them up. I am on 62.5 mcg levothyroxine. Thankyou.

If your endo thinks it's hormones, why doesn't he test them first before offering you HRT patches? Surely that would rule it out, or in.

I can't get my head around why some of these doctors dive straight in with a "treatment" before finding out if it's needed. Doctors don't seem to do much "doctoring" any more, they just seem to like scribbling their signature on a prescription form!

Thanks, that’s what I thought. He told me to speak to my GP, which meant he didn’t prescribe. My GP sent a note to gynaecology asking if ok, saying patient not had this before, no cardiovascular problems, aged 62, and the reply was...... Yes!!! I asked my GP how they would know if it was ok, she said I told them your history, but that doesn’t seem like my lengthy history!!!

When I was 61, I was told I was too old for HRT. As I hadn't had it right from menopause at 50 (as far as I know) it wouldn't help. I don't know how true that is, but come to that, no-one seems to know that much about it, as far as I can tell. So much conflicting information!

I'm 70 and my doctor prescribed me HRT a couple of years ago because of hot flashes and night sweats...it works wonders...and no, I'm not worried about the cancer crap. That study was totally flawed...anyway, I'm glad I have a doctor who has ears and will listen to me.

I never had any hot flushes or night sweats. I never had any symptoms at all.

Thanks. I suffer with bad migraines and HRT can make them worse which I don’t want. Do you have hashimotos? xx

Your thyroid tests should determine what you have. High antibodies are an indicator of Hashimoto's. The range where I live for TPO antibodies is 0-60 and mine have been 1300 for at least the past 15 years, but I was told my results were all normal. My TSH was top of the range too! I started a gluten free diet two years ago after reading on here and the TPO ab reduced by over half to 526!! If you post your results here, someone will help you. Hope this helps.

Why don't you just try it and see, does it matter what bloods say if it helps it helps, I've been on and off hrt for various reasons for years, no problems.

Why not leave the HRT until after you have your thyroid bloods done and then post the results, so you can then be helped further?
