Hi all. Day 5/6 on levothyroxine was the worst days then I felt fabulous for the next 3and a half weeks. It's hard to determine if my lethargic days are put down to the heatwave my menopause or the medication or wakening up during or all of the above. Anyway I've reached the 6 week period and due for blood tests which I will get done next week. Question. Do I prep the nurse who will be taking my blood that I wish to be given the blood results or do I wait until I consult with my gp? I still haven't a clue what people on here talk about when discussing T3 or all these abbreviations (I know some of it is ignorance on my behalf) I'm a great believer that my gp will tell me what I need but I will be asking her lots of questions regarding my next results. Despite the lovely weather I'm experiencing hot and cold feelings. Anyway here's hoping that I get back to normal sometime soon although, thanks to people on here I've taken on board advice and I've been patient and take each day one day at a time. Xx
Away to get my 6 week blood test: Hi all. Day 5/... - Thyroid UK
Away to get my 6 week blood test
Ps I forgot to add that I also turned 50 and it's very hard to determine if age has also got some blame to how I feel. Xx
Hi. I would just like to say that I am 71 and age has nothing what so ever to do with it, when you get your meds right you will be a new women I am on an AIP diet with a special malti vitamins for Hashimoto’s plus omega 3,probiotics vitamin c with NT it has taken a long time to get here and a lot of research so good luck X
Not worth asking the nurse about getting results.
Ask receptionist if you can register for online access to your medical record including blood test results
In reality many GP practices don't have blood tests online yet, though they are supposed to by now
You can just ask for print out of results from receptionist. Tget can't charge for this (new ruling came in May 25th) and you are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges
More importantly......
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
Hi
Make sure the nurse does tick the TSH, T3 & T4 for the lab testing.
I have an argument with the nurse last time as she wasn’t going to request the lab tested my T4 & T3, only my TSH.
You need all three testing, if you think you will forget put it in you diary and take it with you.
Just say the doctor wanted all three testing, and tell her you wrote it down whilst he was talking to you.
Just confuse them, it normally works.
Anyway, I bamboozled her with my thyroid knowledge and told her my GP wants to see the whole thyroid picture.
She did it in the end just to shut me up, she then proceeded to tell me how she feels ill and had her thyroid removed and on no medication.
I couldn’t be bother to tell her she needed medication, after all she should know more about this than me.
I was relieved when I accessed my results on line to see all three had been tested.
I mentioned this to my GP and he gave me a printed blood request sheet to hand to the nurse next time with all three thyroids levels to be tested.
I’ve photocopied a load of them for the future blood tests.
I’m currently on 100mcg of Levothyroxine and started on 50mcg with increases of 25mcg every 6 weeks after blood tests.
It a very slow process, don’t rely on your GP either they have NHS guidelines to adhere too, which quite frankly if left to the guidelines would leave thyroid patients like zombies on anti depressants.
You need to educate yourself, as you’ve already been advised obtain official lab copies from your GP/ receptionist.
Don’t be fobbed off by the receptionist or even the GP saying they are normal.
Post them on here including ranges and the experts will be able to advise.
Good luck
Best wishes

Hi Pozymozy
It's not nice when your feeling like you do , Fingers Crossed you will be back to your self very soon these little pills are Magic , As for your results I usually just ring my doctors surgery up 5 working days later for my results , However when I was really ill a few years ago and my Thyroid was going crazy my doctor used to call me at home and tell me to do in and see him usually to up my medication
It's taken me nearly 5 years to start feeling myself again but Thank goodness I do
Don't forget to take them magic pills and I usually take them 1st thing in the morning with a glass off water
I'm on 300'mg Levoroxine now and this dosage seems to be doing the trick
Good Luck ❤️
You mean 300mcg That's an unusually high dose.
Presumably you have Hashimoto's and malabsorption issues and/or low vitamin levels
Yep I'm on 300 mg daily and have been for a while now ,
I'm having a lot of problems with my Haemoglobin and had to have 5 blood Transfusions a couple of weeks ago and ended up in Hospital for a week but they don't know my my haemoglobin is so low it was 5.5 extremely dangerously low
I'm Under a bowel specialist now
Do you think this could be my Thyroid effecting it ?? X
Was gutted with response from doctors. Good news that my bloods are back to normal but was still feeling awful. The doctor has put that down to my menopause. I stopped taking my levothyroxine to try and prove a point and I feeling like I'm pretty much back to my old self. Am going back to the doctor to ask them to look at the dosage and or trying something else. Xx
