Morning! Has anyone changed there diet to be low or v low carb high fat?

Good results? Any results?

We need a serious change in this our house, so removing ‘pop’ bread, pasta, and certain veggies like peas (yay! I hate peas lol) potatoes etc...

thoughts would be good :)

Thanks in advance

It is a very good idea to remove all the junk and empty calories food that you have listed.

All are gluten-based.

Rather than going on a very low carb diet, start by totally eliminating gluten. A very low carb diet or a low calories diet can affect your thyroid.

Eat good protein (fish, meat), vegetables, good fat (olives, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado), eliminate all refined oil (sunflower, corn) and soya, and as a treat add few seasonal fruits.

If you made no 12, you need to drink a lot of water with it. It can be very dry!

Water intake has got to go up too, I’ve always been rubbish with drinking loads 🙈

Yes. Lost 3 stone pre thyroid out. Post thyroid out put on a stone waiting for RIA and can’t shift it. I’m lowish carb as conflicting info about thyroid and low carb.

Lowering sugar via low carb has to be good as that’s the inflammatory agent. And you can’t cut out carbs cos of the shed loads of veggies you’ll be eating.

Loads of websites out there.

Refined Sugar is a big No-No and so is any food that triggers high insulin (grains, for example).

I spent sometime googling this yesterday as am in the reintroduction stage of the Autoimmune protocol diet and inadvertently have gone lowish carb.

It has done wonders for my type 1 diabetes but am not sure how good it is for my thyroid?

Firstly I found that there seems to be no definitive answer about what Low Carb is - some say 50-75g of carbs per day others 70-130g. I have decided to stick to 75-100g with lots of good fats and protein.

Other research seemed to suggest that for optimum T4 to T3 conversion carbohydrates are required. Again I couldn't find any figures for an exact minimum quantity. But I suppose that makes sense as we are all biochemically different with different lifestyles etc.

So I decided that ketogenic/very low carb might help my diabetes but won't help the conversion of thyroid hormones that I desperately need. Yet others on here have done/do ketogenic diets and recommend them. Try it and see!

I can say that if I hadn't done it myself I would never have believed how much better I could have felt following the AIP. I always thought my diet was healthy enough, which it was but I have obviously eliminated something that was causing trouble.

We’re jumping in and trying, low carb at first... all this has come about after watching ‘The Magic Pill’ on Netflix... right eye opener... lady on there with diabetes & on Levothyroxine along with many other meds, 3 months and was off the majority of meds in the end and completely insulin free .... scary eh, all these ‘chemicals’ aren’t good

That's incredible - having seen my own difference in just a couple of months can totally believe it. Will definitely look that film up. Thank you.

I've been using an app (Nutrachek) to track carbs and the Carbs and Cals book both really useful.

I’ll have a look for that app, I’m using my fitness pal again at the mo, and like the ‘pie’ chart it gives me
