Blood Test what does it mean?

Hi Everyone,

I have Hashimoto’s but take L-Henning thyroxin. Can anyone give me any idea what may be causing the following issues in my blood test results? I have low haemoglobin, low MCMH, low CPK and low platelets but my iron levels, TSH, T4 are all good. Thank you

Shenow,

You are looking anemic. Which iron test result says your levels are good?

Can you post all results & ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment.

Thanks for your reply. All they tested was ‘Ferritin’ which I think is iron levels, I’m 40,1 and the range is 10 -291. I have a GP appointment this weekend so I’ll ask!

Shenow,

Ferritin is your iron storage and you have very little. Your doctor should perform an iron panel to confirm anemia, and prescribe iron supplements accordingly.

If you supply thyroid test results & ranges, members will comment.

Have you had thyroid antibodies tested, folate, B12 and vitamin D too

How much thyroxine are you currently taking

How long at this dose

Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Thanks. These results are from 16th JuneTSH 1,921 (range 0,550-4,780)

T4 15,3 (range 11,5-22,7)

B12 734 (range 221-911)

Ft3 not tested, neither were vitD, antibodies or folate. Haven’t had those tests for several years.

I had the blood test first thing in the morning having not eaten or drink anything. I take 62 1/2mg a day of L-Thyoxin Henning.

With those results I imagine your GP will do further testing, including a full iron panel, for investigation into the causes of your various low levels. Referral to a haematologist and/or rheumatologist could follow. Hope the answer will be quickly found for you.

Thank you. My bloods have been like this for years and my GP did nothing but I have a new GP so I’m more hopeful!

There is always the possibility that these levels are normal for you, even though sometimes out of range, particularly if they produce no symptoms. Hopefully your new GP will be able to shed some light on them, though. Good luck.🙂

Hi ,

Your T4 and Ferritin are far too low. TSH is a bit irrelevant. You need T3 to understand if T4 transforms efficiently in active T3.

Vitamin D is essential for your thyroid supplement to really work. We don't have enough sun in the UK to have a good level naturally.

The best way to get what you need is for you to tell the doctor. Most of them have no clue about thyroid and the real issues.

Get knowledgeable and it will help.Good luck and good reading.

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t had my T3 tested for several years. They do not like or want to test it. Took prescribed vitD over the winter despite the fact I live in south France. At least I’m all armed up on info for the GP. Thanks

Hi Shenow

Iron levels are something else. I take Euthyral for thyroid control. Thyroxin just didn't work. In March 2020 my iron level was 789. My GP didn't think it a problem. In May 2021 my iron level was down to 457. My rhumatologist thinks I should change GP. He was quite worried by the high iron level. My GP said if the level gets above 1000 maybe we should take a litre of blood off you. Conflict of opinion. Hope you sort out your problems.

Just an update. GP has given me iron tablets and is doing a more detailed iron blood test. Also going to redo FT4 and TSH and I even managed to get her to do FT3! I did laugh when she said that thyroxine dose should be 1 1/2 times body weight!! Thanks for all the useful info.
