I came across this website today and found their search for eating out really helpful.

Good read😊 a good list of eateries therd kari but the only downside is even though the menus are gf its the cross contamination bit that is the hardest!! Its all down to trust

I was glutenised by a local brewers farye restaurant by putting my chicken in the same pan that had previously had a fryed fish coated in breadcrumbs!!! Its a real pain in the neck. I always speak to a manager now and even asked to see the kitchen as i suffer badly.x

Gosh, it is so easy to get glutened, isn’t it? We went away for a weekend and my husband got glutened every time so it was impossible for him to follow an autoimmune diet. He has moderately strong reaction to diary so needs to avoid it at all cost which made it even more complicated as if something was gluten free it was full of diary. I think we need to overcome the shyness and ask staff about all the ingredients. I can imagine how hard it is to be coeliac or have food allergies when you have to be extra careful. My husband has intolerances and it is already a nightmare. My grandma cannot get her head around this at all.

Its very hard andt hats why we only eat out now if we are out for the day, ive even taken my own food or ive just had a packet of nuts and cheese and a banana sometimes. As ive said its not just the ingredients its kitchen staff and working areas too.😨

My mum is the same as your grandma, she will say "ive just grilled some bacon for a sandwich for you" but bless her she has forgotton to cook mime on the seperate tin dish-so i cannot eat it as she has had normal susauges or fish fingers on there.

My friend at work is celiac and went away for for a short break in wales for the whole 3 days he spent it in bed with gf poisoning by a pizza that had been handled by kitchen staff handling normal pizzas. His reaction is really dire.😕

It would be such a great idea to have food establishments who sell nothing but gf food, it would have a hige turn over i think-that must be very hard though kari when you are dairy free aswell-luckily im not!!😊

I have found a cafe in Newark, Notts which is totally Gluten free, they only sell gluten free food. They make bread and cakes to take away. Even buy bread and freeze it.

Best wishes

That sounds great-there should be more food eateries that just do nothing but gluten free food so no cross contamination whatsoever!! I think this is a major problem with menus saying gf but the risk of being glutenised is still high unless you have people who prepare and cook your food who are knowledgeable that we have to have a clean seperate area and clean cooking utensils and hands that have not been contaminated. 😊😊

I was told by the owner of the cafe that all staff have to have knowledge about Gluton before being offered a job, and the kitchen is completely gluten free, so no risk of cross contamination which is good.

That is fantastic😊 i do wish more eateries would adopt that approach. 😆
