Saw this on BBC news tonight. Only a very short report, but essentially they have been charging up to £3000 for drugs available elsewhere for £1!!! Sounds vaguely familiar. LOL So it's not just thyroid T3 that NHS is paying through the nose for. I think WBA are overcharging for rheumatism and other drugs. Meanwhile the Government would like to jack up taxes to pay for these hideous and unnecessary drugs charges. We are still waiting for a satisfactory answer re Concordia, it has been over 6 months now.

You couldnt make it up ,could you 😀
Yes, I saw that. Disgusting.
Yep. Saw that article too. The following are some links to some articles re- the Concordance fiasco which sum it up nicely:

What I don't understand is is why there is only one supplier and why the NHS has not been able to shop around for better deals like any other buyer would since it was obviously for sale in other countries at minimal cost. How can big pharmaceutical suppliers hold the buyers to ransom? Usually the buyers hold the ace cards and companies fight to cut costs /offer incentives to buyers to secure their custom but here it is a case of the tail wagging the dog!!! How did NHS get locked into that situation? What sort of hold does Concordia have over the NHS that precludes the NHS from shopping around for a better deal?
There are all sorts of other ramifications. For example the government, health and social services have been expressing grave concerns about the exponential boom in cases of Alzheimer’s dementia and the strain that that will put on resources in the future. Recent research has shown that there is a link between Hashimoto's and Alzheimer's and that up to 90% of people with Hypothyroidism may actually have undiagnosed Hashimoto’s. Nero fiddling while Rome burns!!!
I understand there are petitions out there and that it has gone to the Scottish Parliament - possibly the UK one too. Am wondering if the Alzheimer’s consideration has been included in the deliberations since it might help focus their thinking to become more proactive?

Overcharging for T3 is happening here, too. I can get compounded T3, 10 mcg, 60 tabs for $45. Cytomel, 5 mcg, 120 tabs (equivalent dosage to previous example) is $139 copay! Absurd!
