Hi there, I was listening to Dr Berg who said hashimotos patients should take iodine supplements. I have purchased 400 Kelp but reading further this may be detrimental to Hashi patients. I haven't been tested for iodine levels. I would appreciate your comments

Hashimoto and Kelp
The jury is out with regard to iodine supplementation - especially with Hashimotos. I have read that it is like adding fuel to the fire ! There is iodine in your T4 you are taking .... Testing first is very important and you need to be under the care of a Doc that understands iodine.
Thanks for this, I took one dose yesterday thinking it would be the answer to my aches and pains and then did further research. I will not take anymore.

Just found the above article hidden away in my Healthy File So confusing for so many of us !
I thought iodine was in levothyroxine?. Doesn't excessive amounts cause hashimotos/autoimmune disorders?.🤔 Very confused.
There's 65 mcg iodine in 100 mcg levo. And, yes, excessive amounts can trigger Hashi's.
Iodine is one of the ingredients of thyroid hormone. But, if you have Hashi's, your problem is not lake of ingredients, it's lack of thyroid tissue to make the hormone, due to Hashi's attacks. Iodine isn't going to repair the thyroid. I wouldn't take it.
Hi
I took kelp over 25 years ago. Soon after, I developed mennorrahagia, had lining of womb ablated, for that. I was then diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I will never know if kelp caused one or both issues.
I wouldn't take kelp again if I knew what I know now.
However, we are each different. What suits one may not suit another.
Good luck.
