Diagnosis problems

I have a morning temperature of 32c to 33c and evening of up to 34c I am very fatigued can only stay out of bed about 7hours. I get a lot of aches and weak legs. I went and had a blood test for hashimotos. the Tsh was at the bottom of limit as was T4 and my T3 was below by a few points. Doc said yes your fine. He was not going to do anything but I went on at him and he gave me appointment with endocrinologist, which is year and half away. I feel ill and depressed, so I am going to go privately, but as I said doc said it was fine if it is what is wrong with me

Hi Gillcm, welcome to the forum.

Do you have the actual numbers from that post : results and ranges? It sounds like you were tested for hypo, but not for Hashi's. For Hashi's they would have had to test the antibodies.

If your TSH was low and your Frees were low, that doesn't sound like Hashi's, that sounds like Central hypo, where the problem lies with the pituitary or the hypothalamus, rather than the thyroid gland itself. A GP wouldn't recognise that, because they don't even know it exists.

Are you in the UK? If so then email Dionne at tukadmin@thyroiduk.org for the list of thyroid friendly endos.

Most private endocrinologists are also NHS endos and often tend to stick to the NHS guidelines, so you need to find an endo privately who will benefit you, rather than waste your money.

As Greygoose says, it does sound like Central Hypothyroidism so you need to choose your endo wisely. See who is on the list, ask on the forum if anyone has managed to get a diagnosis of Central Hypothyroidism in your area (providing, of course, that when we see the test results it does suggest that), and ask for feedback on any endos that you can get to. Replies will have to be by private message. To get a diagnosis of Central Hypothyroidism you need a proper thyroid specialist, most endos specialise in diabetes, and investigations into pituitary and hypothalamus disfunction will be needed.

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need enhanced access to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up. They can make nominal charge for printing but many will do so for free (£10 max and can not charge at all after May 25th 2018)
