How can I ensure I’m given Actavis thyroxin as prescribed not Teva to which I respond badly. My pharmacist says Actavis is difficult to get.

I asked the pharmacy I use (Boots) to put it on my records that I need Actavis dispensed, no other brands, never been a problem. If your pharmacy is being unhelpful try elsewhere.

Pick up actual paper prescription from GP surgery. Then you have options to go to most helpful pharmacy - try small independent ones they tend to be much more helpful, as not tied into specific suppliers

My Boots store seem to get it easily too. The name on the outside of the box is Almus, but the foil with the tablets in says Actavis. As Bantam says, get them to mark your records.

I asked Asda pharmacy this morning whether i could change to Actavis and was told no problem getting it but they told me they would have to get my doctor to add a note to my prescription. Will have to try Boots.

It looks like your pharamcist is not quite getting it.

There is NO 25 microgram Actavis levothyroxine tablet - so it is obviously "difficult to get"!

You could ask for Mercury Pharma or Wockhardt in 25 micrograms. Or accept 50 microgram Actavis and split them.

You can ask your GP to write the required brand on the prescription.

My usual pharmacy doesn’t stock Actavis either but they can order it in for me.

There has been the odd hiccup lately when they haven’t noticed the direction on the prescription, and I have considered having it sent back for collection at Sainsbury’s pharmacy instead.

I always used to get my Actavis from Sainsbury’s but changed because the other one is closer.

I told the pharmacist about my problems and she said I must stick to the same brand and get my doctor to request it by name and then she has to get that brand. Owners must want their staff to stock the cheapest dose available but if a GP specifies it must be adhered to. If it a chain and theyvcantvdo thatcthen you may have to try a smaller company.

I have always used Actavis ever since the debacle with Teva back in 2012. Can't tolerate any other makes because of fillers. I don't have a problem getting Actavis/Almus as my local chemist is Boots. I have a pill cutter, as they only make 100mcg and 50 mcg pills. When I was taking 112.5mcg I would take 100mcg every day and then split a 50 mcg tablet and take half (25mcg) on alternate days. Worked well enough except for the fact that my T4 an T3 have never been above half way in range, so now taking some T3 with 100mcg Actavis and things are improving
