Graves blood test numbers and completely hashimotos symptoms

I was on Armour and broke out with a rash that was miserably itchy at night, after finding out the drug was reformatted about that time, they switched me to levothyroxine 150. My latest blood tests are S-TSH <0.01 and my T4 FREE is 1.9. My symptoms are each and every symptom of Hashimotos. Weight gain, memory problems, slurred speech, concentration, brain fog....everything. Could it be my Pituatary gland? Ps the rash has not gone away. Sleep deprived and so confused. I am seeing an Endo, Derm and will see a Nero in next 2 weeks.Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Graves’ is an autoimmune condition. If you are being treated for a hypOthyroid disorder, blood tests showing you are hypERthyroid are most likely to be due to over-medication with thyroid replacement, or possibly a Hashi’s “flare”.

Many thyroid disease symptoms, including those you describe, can be experienced by those with either over or underactive thyroids. This even applies to weight gain, although sudden weight loss is more typical of untreated hyperthyroidism .

You don’t give the ranges for your blood tests. Sure your TSH looks low, but without the range, it’s difficult to be sure where your free FT4 lies. Do you have the ranges ?

Yes, thank you. Tf free is 1.9 no/dL range...0.9-1.7

TSH is <0.01 mlU/L

RANGE IS 0.30-4.20

So it appears your FT4 is slightly over range.

Could it be my pituitary gland?

Sorry, I don’t know much about pituitary problems, and to confirm these, you would need pituitary function tests. Is there anything in particular making you suspect pituitary problems ? The symptoms you describe are all common with thyroid disorders (although admittedly not exclusive to these) .

Your TSH is low, and that is released by the pituitary, but the fact that TSH is low while FT4 is high suggests the pituitary is doing its job properly, in this context at least. When the supply of thyroid hormones runs low, the pituitary releases TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) to tell the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormones. As you already have plenty of these (as indicated by your high FT4 levels), the pituitary does not need to produce TSH. If your low TSH was down to a failure in the pituitary, you would expect FT4 to be low as well, showing that the signal to produce more FT4 was needed, but had not arrived.

Have you tried antihistamine for the rash ? Maybe explain the situation to your pharmacist, and ask them to recommend something ? However, if it’s an allergy to something in the reformulated medication, it may be that you need a change. If you post specifically asking about allergies, you may find out whether such allergies are common.
