Dear Members,

I'm trying to get to grips with having Hashimoto and understanding all the symptoms. Trying not to worry and trying to prepare for a Frozen Embyo Transfer at the end of June.

My Thyroid is uncomfortable, sore, my voice a little hoarse. When i speak a little louder it is uncomfortable. My Thyroid feels inflamed but not swollen if that makes any sense. I am aware that is uncomfortable most of the day. I am tired.

I am mum of one (6 year old), 44 years old and planning to transfer another embryo in (Frozen for 10 years) end of June. I am nervous about my thyroid and hoping that all is ok. I'm trying to work it all out but no little as I have only just been diagnosed. I have an endocrine DR ( I live in Thailand) and am seeing another on 20th May.

Diagnosis came from an ultrasound. I have a lot of damage to my thyroid already with many cysts or nodules. Is that what they are called? The are benign. No colour mass inside of them.

My Bloods came back within normal range; TSH 3.55 . I went to the DR with severe symptoms. Complete intolerance to cold which was becoming intolerable, numbness followed by pins and needles after being exposed to 1 hour of AC. Not being able to swim in water which was less than 32C for the same reason. Severe IBS (diarrhea) , headaches, A FAtigue so extreme In bed by 9pm exhausted. No energy. Itchiness after any high impact exercise.

I also have had night sweats in the past. I also have other immune system illnesses, Vertiligo, Endometriosis, severe dust allergies and sinus issues. I lost my sense of smell about 5-8 years ago. It was gradual. My taste is also impeded. I had 10 years of fertility treatment and many misscarriages. We were blessed with our little girl.

I also has ANA antibodies test and it came back as 1:160 fine speckled pattern. My Dr said I had auto immune issues!

The DR put me on half a tab daily of Thyroxine so 25iui. At my request. My levels TSH went down to 1.3. My VitD2 level was frieghtfully low at only 2!!!! She put me on 50k weekly but now i'm on 50k monthly and I think i'm getting tired again.

I went for another blood test last week as i have been feeling so unwell. My TSH has gone up! to 2.1. And my T3 is now out of range at 74.

I am desperate to get it all sorted before embryo transfer.

My questions are:

1) is it normal to have a sore thyroid all the time?

2) Is it normal to have slight tachicardia? pulse racing, heart palpitations

3) my feet and hands are slightly swollen mornings and evenings somtimes

4) A week ago I was all over the place. Feeling extremely PMT, agressive. on day 6 of my cycle.

5) my mouth, nose and palette feeling weird. not numb but almost.

6) i get brain fog all the time. I thought it was my dyslexia but i'm thinking now it may be the Hashimoto. My memory is terrible. Even my daughter tells me the other day Mummy you forget everything!!!

7) can this all be HAshimoto? my TSH levels are not so high. My ultrasound did however show extensive damage :(

I'm feeling quite down with it all and worried.

Thanks sorry for the long post.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies.

Plus essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.

If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get antibodies tested.

If TTC or embryo transfer TSH should be under 2.5

If on Levothyroxine TSH likely needs to be around one and FT4 towards top of range
